If you enjoy cooking you own meals while on vacation, check out the local farmers markets for fresh, local produce and more!!

The official start of farmers market season is here along the Grand Strand. Before tourism was the number one industry in Horry County (where Myrtle Beach is located), farming and agriculture drove our local economy. While the area evolved as more and more people came to visit, it is still home to a number of outstanding farming operations that provide us with fantastic seasonal produce meat products, eggs, honey and so much more.

Lately, a group called the Waccamaw Market Cooperative has really worked at organizing vendors, scheduling markets for different days in different areas of the county, and actually marketing the different markets. Each of their farmers markets have grown both in size and quality, and any of them are worth a visit.  I have so much fun spending the morning or afternoon picking out dinner, and some of the markets even have live music or other activities like free yoga on site.
